 Empty Cups Project 2008

Once again AICA Education, a unique private boutique College on the Gold Coast, is preparing for its second Empty Bowls project.

The project originated in 1990 in Michigan, USA when a high school teacher helped his students solve a problem. They were searching for a way to raise funds to support a food drive. What evolved was a class project to make ceramic bowls for a fund raising meal. Guests were served a simple meal of soup and bread and were invited to keep the bowl as reminder of hunger in the world. AICA’S CEO Ruth Grosser welcomed the opportunity to be involved and to contribute. Last year AICA Education raised $600 towards a project for World Vision.
This year everyone involved with the College will produce coffee mugs under the guidance of Ceramics tutor Michaela Kloeckner. Unfortunately the tutor was away on a pottery study tour and exhibition in China on world food day, October 16th. The fund raising event this year will therefore be held on Wednesday 3rd December between 12.00pm and 1.30pm and all funds raised will go to The Green Gecko Project which is an initiative founded to benefit the lives of street children in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
